As Indonesia continues to develop renewable energy technologies (RETs), it will require knowledgeable and skilled manpower to design, install, operate, repair and maintain its new energy systems. PEKA SINERGI addresses this need by developing a system of training and certification for the Indonesia’s renewable energy technology workforce.
Launched in September 2015, the project is developing competency standards for professionals in four RET fields (solar, wind, hydro, biomass) and piloting competency-based training and certification at the Technical Education Development Centre Bandung (TEDC Bandung), the University of Mataram (UNRAM) and at senior vocational schools (Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan -- SMK) in Lombok, Nusa Tenggara Barat province.
By the end of the project period, PEKA SINGERGI will have produced national competency standards for RET professionals (Standar Kompetensi Kerja Nasional Indonesia – SKKNI), certified trainers and assessors for RET, and a professional RET association (Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesi – LSP). Teachers from twelve SMKs will be trained in RET competencies, and schools will be provided with equipment so that they can train their students for jobs in the RET workforce. UNRAM and TEDC will be outfitted with RET facilities and established as RET assessment centres (Tempat Unji Kompetensi – TUK) capable of offering training and certification programs to both recent graduates and people already in the workforce.

The island of Lombok, in West Nusa Tenggara Province, is rich in renewable resources capable of producing energy: solar, wind, hydro and biomass. To promote the sustained development of RETs in Lombok, PEKA SINERGI is piloting training and certification at the University of Mataram and at 12 senior vocational schools.
